On August 30, 2023, Hurricane Idalia made landfall near Keaton Beach, FL in the Big Bend area as a Category 3 storm and caused widespread flooding and power loss in Citrus, Hillsborough, Taylor, Pasco, and Pinellas counties, with Taylor County receiving the worst of the impact.

The Citrus County Habitat for Humanity affiliate teamed up with their local United Way to help those in their community who were impacted. The Taylor County affiliate worked with Habitat for Humanity of Florida and our Disaster Resilience and Resource Development Officer to create a plan for recovery. We have also been able to partner with State Farm to provide a $50,000 grant to Taylor County Habitat for Humanity. This will allow the affiliate to repair up to 15 storm-damaged homes in the next year.
